Roosevelt Honors its Namesake

The New Deal inspired a social experiment on the western edge of Monmouth County with the establishment of Jersey Homesteads in a section of Millstone Township.  Renamed Roosevelt shortly after the President’s death in 1945, the cooperative community resettled Jewish garment workers in a setting that combined farming and manufacturing.  This monument to FDR, who guided the nation through both the Great Depression and World War II, is located in a shady glen near the town’s only elementary school.
